My Artistic Statement
Niamh is heavily influenced by Street Dance, drawing on its sense of freedom, individuality, and raw energy to shape her movement style. She uses these qualities to bring a grounded and expressive dynamic to her performance, allowing her personality to come through in an authentic way. Her training in Commercial and Contemporary Dance has further developed her versatility, enabling her to transition seamlessly between strength and softness, control and release, with clear intention.
Musicality is at the heart of everything she does. She listens closely to the details within the music, allowing rhythm, texture and emotion to inform the quality and timing of her movement. This connection helps her create performances that feel both responsive and immersive. She is particularly interested in how movement can reflect subtle changes in sound, giving her work depth.
Through performance, Niamh aims to connect with her audience and create a genuine sense of presence. She focuses on bringing honest energy to every space she enters, whether in rehearsal or on stage and strives to leave a lasting impression through both her movement and her commitment to the work.
My Experience.
I started dancing when I was four years old, beginning with fun, playful classes that introduced me to movement and performance at a young age. From these early experiences, dance quickly became something I naturally gravitated towards, growing from a hobby into a genuine passion as I got older.
As I progressed, I developed a strong interest in hip hop dance, which became the style I connected with the most. I was drawn to its energy, freedom, and individuality, and I loved how it allowed me to express my personality through movement. This passion encouraged me to train more seriously and consistently, pushing myself to improve my technique, musicality, and performance quality.
Dance has had a significant impact on my life, shaping not only my training but also my confidence, discipline, and work ethic. It has taught me perseverance and the importance of dedication, especially when learning new styles or facing challenges in training. Over time, it has also helped me grow as a performer, allowing me to develop my own style and artistic identity.
Now, dance is a central part of who I am. It continues to influence my training and inspire me to keep improving, exploring new styles, and pushing myself creatively and technically within my practice.
Training in commercial dance has had a strong impact on my development as a performer, helping me become more confident, versatile, and performance-ready. It has pushed me to focus on precision, energy, and expression, especially when performing in front of others. This style has also improved my ability to pick up choreography quickly and adapt to different choreographic demands. Overall, commercial dance has helped shape me into a more well-rounded and confident dancer
Commercial Dance
Training in contemporary dance has helped me develop more control, fluidity, and emotional expression in my movement. It has encouraged me to focus on how I move rather than just what I do, paying attention to breath, dynamics, and intention. This style has also improved my strength and awareness, helping me become a more expressive and grounded performer.
